Temple Bar is at the heart of Dublin’s cultural quarter, also called Temple Bar. This area is the network of narrow cobbled streets and squares between Dame Street, Westmoreland Street, Fishamble Street and the river. Previously a rather down-at-heel area it is now a thriving destination for tourists and locals alike enjoying its boutiques and second-hand shops, and of course the always-lively pubs, bars and restaurants.

Notable among the many pubs in the area are the Oliver St John Gogarty, The Auld Dubliner, The Turk’s Head, The Brazen Head – reputedly Dublin’s oldest pub – and of course the Temple Bar.

Cultural Highlights of the Temple Bar area include the art house cinema at the Irish Film Institute on Eustace Street, the Project Arts Centre, the Gallery of Photography and the National Photographic Archives. In the summer months outdoor activities abound in Temple Bar, such as outdoor concerts and cinema, and a Saturday food market in Meeting House Square, a Saturday design market in Cow’s Lane, and a book market on Saturdays and Sundays in Temple Bar Square.
